• Approach

My teaching philosophy is that one size does not fit all. Students stay engaged when learning is both fun and relevant to the music they hear and enjoy. That’s why I don’t teach ‘by-the-book’ using a book. I do use books for academic exercises, but more importantly, I help students learn to play songs they like, and let the challenges found in the songs drive the content of our lessons.

For more advanced students, we’ll practice written exercises, then expand them by adding our own flavor and expression. Knowing how to generate an endless stream of fresh, exciting ideas is one of the keys to being a top-level player. Tight execution and proper hand technique are important, too. And you can rest assured that we’ll cover these areas of your playing.

  • Payment

For the ‘Monthly, Paid In Advance’ options, the amount due is based on the number of lesson slots in each month – some months will include 4 lessons; other months will include 5 lessons. Lessons for the upcoming month are paid in advance at the start of the month.

The ‘Pay-As-You-Go’ options allow you to schedule as many or as few lessons in a month as you like. Payment for each lesson is due at the time the lesson is scheduled. Lesson times are subject to availability, so please provide at least 24 hours’ notice when setting up a ‘pay-as-you-go’ lesson.

To keep costs down (and pass the savings on to you), I am currently accepting payment via Zelle and PayPal.

  • Attendance

To keep costs down (and pass the savings on to you), I ask that students attend each weekly lesson or make up the lessons they miss. If you need to cancel a lesson for any reason, that’s fine. However, to avoid being charged for cancelled lessons, missed lessons must be made up before the end of the month.

Make up lessons are subject to my availability. If we are unable to agree on a time and date for a make-up lesson, you will be charged for the cancelled lesson(s). My low prices and ability to personalize lessons each week are based on weekly attendance.

  • Lessons via Skype or Zoom

I have conducted hundreds of lessons using videoconferencing software. It saves us both time and money, and I pass the savings on to you. You’ll need Skype or Zoom on a laptop (preferably) and high-speed internet connection. I guarantee complete satisfaction with this format.
